Royal Hogs are the newest evolution added in Clash Royale, and it’s already one of my favorites. Someone at Supercell must’ve taken “when pigs fly” literally, because that’s exactly what they do now. In this article I’ll take a look at the new Royal Hogs evolution and what it does, then I’ll talk about three great decks featuring them!
What is the Royal Hogs’ Evolution?
Royal Hogs’ evolution only does one thing–it makes the Hogs fly. When you play the evolved version, the Hogs start out as flying troops. They still function exactly the same in terms of how they target, but they’re much more consistent now. Since they fly, they’re now much harder to counter. It’s also almost impossible to stop the Hogs from reaching targets since they’re so fast. Then, once they reach the building they’re targeting, they drop to the ground and do landing damage. From there, they’re just the same old Hogs we’re used to.
This evolution is excellent for offensive purposes. It objectively improves the Hogs’ performance as a win con and reduces the amount of support troops you need in your deck. I don’t think they’re the overall best evolution, but they’re towards the top of the list. If you can, I highly recommend getting this evolution before the season ends and it becomes harder to get.
Royal Hogs + Royal Ghost

Cards:
- Royal Hogs (Evo)
- Royal Ghost (Evo)
- Three Musketeers
- Hunter
- Fireball
- Barbarian Barrel
- Heal Spirit
- Skeletons
This is probably the most popular Royal Hogs deck right now. I saw it all over RoyaleAPI when researching decks, and you’ll probably see it in the TV Royale too if you check that anytime soon. And, all in all, it’s easy to see why. Royal Hogs and Royal Ghost are the two newest evolutions, and they’re both really strong. They also work well together, as Royal Hogs is an incredible win con while Royal Ghost is excellent for defending. With these two evolutions, this deck is extremely hard to beat.
For the rest of this deck, there are a few key cards to remember. Three Musketeers are very popular right now since they just got reworked and buffed, so I love including them. They are expensive, but they’re powerful enough to include as long as you can be patient using them. Hunter is also really strong, as it can easily counter tanks as long as it can get close enough. It’s great against everything from Royal Giant to Mega Knight to even lower-HP threats. For spells, this deck has two to work with. Fireball is a must-have for any deck that has 4 elixir to spare since Three Musketeers are everywhere. Barbarian Barrel is also here for use against any swarm or Goblin Barrel. Skeletons and Heal Spirit are both just cheap cards to use, but they do have value as defenders/support as well.
Playing this deck is pretty easy. The biggest decision you have to make is when to use Three Musketeers, which isn’t too hard to get the hang of. Since Royal Hogs and Royal Ghost are both so strong, we can afford to be aggressive here. Try to play as many evolved Hogs as possible, and use the Royal Ghost mainly for defending.
Royal Hog Cycle

This is another of the more popular Royal Hogs decks right now, and it’s very similar to another long-time popular deck–Hog Cycle. But instead of Hog Rider as the win con, this deck has the Royal Hogs. With their evolution, they’re by far more powerful in terms of consistency, so I think they’re a worthy replacement. The deck is also not quite as all-in on the low-elixir side of things as traditional cycle decks, but that’s okay. While the elixir cost might be a bit higher due to Archer Queen’s inclusion, it’s 100% worth the trade off.
For the other evolution in this deck, I think Cannon is a good choice. Evolved Cannon is incredible for just about everything (particularly the cross-map damage barrage), so I think it’s a perfect choice for this deck. Royal Delivery is also a strong utility card that stands out right now. I’ve mostly been using it to help deal with swarms or low-HP troops like Minions and Skeleton Army, but the Recruit himself is a strong defender as well. Then we have the rest of the standard cycling cards like cheap 1-elixir troops (Skeletons and Ice Spirit) and The Log for both cycling and general use.
These kinds of decks are always very skill-reliant, so it pays to be patient. There aren’t that many ways to deal with threats, so you’ll need to use each card as well as possible. You can spam Royal Hogs as much as you want, but with everything else you want to play defensively.
Royal Hogs + Royal Recruits

For this last deck, I decided to go with one that’s a little more off meta. This deck is essentially the fairly popular Royal Recruits + Goblin Cage deck, but without the Goblin Cage. Obviously I have Royal Hogs in that spot, and I also substituted Goblin Hut for the Cage since I can’t have the evolved version. The deck itself plays similarly, but with a more aggressive playstyle thanks to the Hogs. Royal Hogs change this deck from a more controlling one into more of a hybrid. The defensive abilities of Royal Recruits, Zappies, and Goblin Hut allows this deck to keep its traditional style, but Royal Hogs pushes it to another level.
In addition to the evolutions, we have several more strong cards to remember. Arrows is one the best spells, as it can handle everything from Goblin Barrel to Firecracker. Fireball would also be a good choice here if you don’t mind the 1 extra elixir, but Arrows are a bit better since the lower elixir is nice for this deck. Zappies is also really good for defending, and Flying Machine fits the role of a flying troop well since it has great range, decent damage, and doesn’t cost too much.
I don’t really feel like there’s one specific way to play this deck, as it’s really more focused on a balanced approach. If you choose to be more aggressive, you’ll want to use numbers to your advantage. This deck can create a lot of chaos with Royal Recruits, Hogs, Zappies, etc. With all that going on, opponents can get easily overwhelmed. However, you could choose to wait longer before making a huge push and instead just focus on counter pushes. Either way works, and it’s best not to over-commit to any one strategy early with this deck.
